The North Korean Nuclear Crisis

The North Korean Nuclear Crisis

Politics
Trevor Duncan
North Korea is a sort of misshapen political science experiment wherein a peninsula was divided between capitalism and communism. The South enjoying the patronage of the West while the North “enjoyed” the regional hospitality of the Communist regimes in China and the Soviet Union. The totalitarian left did what it normally did, and culminated in the rule of a dictator with a personality cult at the ready in North Korea. The moderate capitalist forces did what they normally do: they turned the South into a high-end economic power featuring manufacturing as its main focus but will probably turn out to be somewhat unsustainable. There was a war where the two sides were separated by a demilitarised zone (DMZ) ...

I can’t begin to tell you what fun we’ve had on the hustings in this, our first campaign. My faith has been restored by those most affected by this current recession. It must be simply ghastly for all involved. Such stoicism in the face of impending doom is heart-rending. For that, I commend you all. Because of my status as a tax exile I don’t get to venture out among the good citizenry of Royal County Meath as much I should like to. My work as a Currency Trader similarly, compels one to stay abroad. Consequently, any sojourns into Eire are conducted by stealth. Still, I keep my oar in—with the occasional meet at Fairyhouse, ...

Tuath: Youth – E.P. Preview

Culture Scum Gentry Staff The nightmare jazz—a psychedelic wink from cosmic grandfather fading in the vortex—deep-fried good ol’ Rock and RRrroll—vocals like Ian Curtis crooning through a black hole from some alternative universe where he never kicked the chair—ambience so soft and soothing it would curl up beside you and spoon you to sleep, only to shake you violently awake seconds later, gibbering through grinding amphetamine jaws about a past of lies and a future that could never actually exist... Just what the fuck does it all mean? Why, it means Tuath have returned of course, with their latest traipse through the static electric madness of Tuath-ville population: zero plus infinity. It means Psychedelic Trip hop/Rock/Electronic/Ambient/Everything band Tuath have returned, with their ...

Shiver-me-limber. It’s morning again and I’m cold. This blanket is tucked around me like the skin they wrap around sausage meat. My arms are clenched tight to my chest and I am all of a sudden conscious of the lack of warmth in my right ear. It’s cold. It’s dark-winter-morning cold. My exposed extremities are desperate for the warming embrace of a sympathetic soul. A parent or a lover who might provide a less traumatic transition from dreams into reality. Someone who could rub my blood warm. Instead I wake up to the morning felicitations of this dank and dreary room; coughing with a suffocation brought on by the primordial patches of damp that have enveloped the ...

Fireworks festivals, earthquakes, early morning missile warning wake-up calls, all-you-can-drink bars, crap Irish bars, excellent Goth bars, a Reggae bar that is more like a house party back home, the never-ending awkward bow competition and don’t forget a month of making sure my desk is warmed to the most perfect temperature while I eagerly await the start of the new school term. I’ve lost weight, joined a flash mob, been busted by hotel security in a restroom (you can fill in the gaps), made a whole new network of friends in a short amount of time, visited ancient shrines, taken an escalator up a mountain, had a coffee made for me by a vending machine with a ...
