Song of the Week
Princess of Chaos
Great White Lies
The Princess of Chaos is here… Arriving in an explosion of TripHop-alicious frenzy and hard rock zeal, she demands your full and immediate attention. Give it to her now or suffer the perilous cost…
A frenetic feat in multi-genre mashup with a Zappa-esque post-jazz twist, “Princess of Chaos” by Great White Lies is this week’s Scum Gentry Radio song of the week (which happens every week. Literally every single week…this week, last week, all those other weeks. Remember? That’s right, The Song of the Week, which this week happens to be on the SECOND of April…which is today. April 2nd Day.)
SHUT UP AND LISTEN:
Great White Lies
Sonically speaking Amy Winehouse has dinner with Portishead in an up-market greasy spoon; Great White Lies’ sound resides in the alley on the way back. Jazz and funky soul permeate through their inventive ‘weird pop’ sound.
In 2015 Great White Lies self-released their debut ep to critical acclaim including a nomination from Pure M for best ep and winning VAI Song of The Year. Throughout 2016 they toured internationally in Canada & showcase gigs in Los Angeles and in 2017; the BBC featured 3 of their songs in the documentary ‘Love In A Day’.
2018 saw their release of “Near & Far” & “Red”, the latter receiving accolades from Across The Line, Get In Her Ears, Chordblossom and other airplay and blogs. In 2019 Siobhán created the soundtrack to ‘Bleed’ for Farset Films and received rave reviews for the politically charged single ‘Fear’ in June.
The debut album ‘Chrysalis’ was released in November, receiving airplay from KCLR, BBC Radio Ulster, Highland Radio, 8Radio and Flirt FM to name a few and was listed in Golden Plec music critic John Loftus’s top 20 Irish albums of 2019.
